We’re collecting telematics data from B.C. organizations. The data shows how commercial zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) perform in real-world applications.
The data collection is part of the Commercial Vehicle Pilots (CVP) program. CVP program participants also complete quarterly surveys and exit interviews. These provide context to the telematics data.
Types of data we’re collecting
Emissions and cost savings
- Avoided CO2 from operations
- CO2 emissions per km
- Fuel cost savings
Operation and performance
- Days and distance driven
- Average speed and drive time
- Implied range
- Driver impressions
Charging and energy
- Energy consumption
- Temperature effects
- Battery state of charge (SoC)
- Charge time
- Maintenance issues
Comparing zero-emission and internal combustion engine vehicles
Where possible, telematics data is also collected on an equivalent internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. This gives us relevant ICE vehicle data that we can compare against the ZEV data collected.
We make it clear in each project when we have ICE vehicle data.
Total cost of ownership (TCO)
We know you want to know the total cost of owning a ZEV fleet.
We don’t have enough data to provide an accurate indicator of this. One year of data isn’t enough. Providing this information now would be misleading.
We include fuel cost savings and maintenance costs when available, but no estimates relating to TCO.
Getting insights from real-world data
Objectivity and fact-based information are key in decision making. We want to provide tools for insight rather than making recommendations.
Feedback from the industry lets us know what information to focus on. This supports organizations exploring if and how ZEVs could fit into their operations.
How you can access project data
We create a project summary and data package after a project has reported a full year of telematics and survey collection. These also include general and project management feedback from participants.
We heard from industry feedback that there is a lack of accessible and reliable real-world ZEV performance data. The intent of these packages is to fill this gap.
Different audiences need different levels of detail in these packages. To help you find the information most relevant to you, each package has three different items.
Project final report
- A detailed analysis of all project data including background information on how we came to our conclusions
- Great for those who need all the information or guidance through our analysis
Project summary card
- A 2-page overview of the project’s most in-demand findings
- Great to print out or include in presentations
Interactive project dashboard
- A Power BI dashboard with all the data points, graphs, and visualizations we use in the project summary and data package
- Great for those who want to delve deep into the data and complete their own analysis
