Class 6 delivery truck project
The Class 6 delivery truck project used battery-electric trucks to deliver furniture in B.C.
7Gen and GoBolt worked together on this project. They are the first to complete a full year of data collection, surveys and interviews.
The Commercial Vehicle Pilots program supported this project with charging infrastructure only. The project got funding for six 100 kW+ chargers.
Total funding: $160,940
Project overview
The zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) chosen for this project met duty cycle needs of the fleet. The battery capacities were enough to complete the daily workload.

Charging and energy
- Start of day SoC averaged 95.2 percent
- End of day SoC averaged 48 percent
- Averaged 3.1 hours of daily charge time
- Averaged 72 kWh of daily charged energy
- 68.9 kWh/100 km of energy consumed while driving
- 77.3 kWh/100 km of energy consumed while driving and idling
What they learned about using ZEVs
They learned that:
- Fuel cost savings can be achieved
- Drivers often prefer the battery-electric trucks
- Driving training is important for fleet integration
- Range in the real world can be much less than the manufacturer states
- Cold weather has a measurable impact on daily range
- Upfront costs are a barrier to ZEV adoption for commercial use
- Connect early with service and equipment providers for a smoother integration
- Maintain the relationship with service and equipment providers to reduce vehicle downtime
7Gen and GoBolt remain committed to reducing their impact on the environment.
